PDF Days Europe 2015 has established itself as the premier PDF standards event. You can find the PDF Days-Agenda here. Organized by the PDF Association, this event lets participants learn everything they need to know about PDF standards, including the latest news and developments in the world of PDF technology. The focus was, of course, on practical applications with project-related presentations showing concrete application scenarios and others demonstrating how PDF standards can make day-to-day work easier.

ZUGFeRD als Datenmodell für den elektronischen Rechnungsaustausch findet Anwendung: Steuerrelevante Dokumente in das Portable Document Format (PDF) zu konvertieren und in dieser Form zu archivieren, ist vom Bundesministerium der Finanzen (BMF) nun explizit befürwortet worden.​

Mit den neuen Bestimmungen werden die seit 1995 geltenden Grundsätze abgelöst und den Bedingungen der heutigen Arbeitswelt angepasst. Mit Veröffentlichung der neuen GoBD (Grundsätze zur ordnungsmäßigen Führung und Aufbewahrung von Büchern, Aufzeichnungen und Unterlagen in elektronischer Form sowie zum Datenzugriff) hat das Bundesministerium für Finanzen nun die Aufbewahrung steuerrelevanter Unterlagen in Form von PDF-Dokumenten genehmigt. Das widerum führte zur Entwicklung vom Rechnungsformat und Datenmodell ZUGFeRD um das es hier gehen soll. ZUGFeRD steht dabei für Zentraler User Guide des Forums elektronische Rechnung Deutschland.

PDF/A-3 as the preferred ZUGFeRD format​

The Central User Guidelines of the Electronic Billing Forum of Germany - best known by its acronym ZUGFeRD, which resembles and is pronounced like the German word for a draft horse - describe a new document and file format for the exchange of electronic invoices. The initiators' goal is to establish a new standard for billing that will be published as a national norm in Germany and then submitted to the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). PDF is playing a key role in this program, especially since the visual depiction of the billing data is generated using a PDF/A-3 document, with an invoice data file in XML format embedded within it at the same time.
